My daughter is interested in atheism. She is 13 years old and I would like to point her towards some information to help her understand atheism and agnosticism . A quick search of my local library and the internet did not yield any results. I would appreciate any links or book reccomendations. Thanks.

Re: Agnostic and atheist resources for children ?
Fri, February 16, 2007 - 2:53 AMI don't really have any helpful resources, but I think as long as you describe to her the difference between Atheism and Agnosticism and why they are not mutually exclusive you'll be off to a good start. Knowing the roots of the words and their heritage (such as Thomas Huxley with agnosticism) is also important. Honestly, wikipedia has proven to be a great resource for me. It has great articles for both. -

Re: Agnostic and atheist resources for children ?
Fri, February 16, 2007 - 5:01 AMEasy enough to find, but I figured I'd throw down the links for the wikipedia articles just to make it that much easier.
Agnosticism: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agnosticism
Atheism: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atheism
For an overall religious studies experience, comparative religion and universalism are both good starts:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comp...e_religion
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universalist
Hope this helps. -

Re: Agnostic and atheist resources for children ?
Fri, February 16, 2007 - 2:42 PMSend her to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_method
I hate titles, especially when it comes to non-belief. I'm also afraid that many people look to Atheism as some sort of group instead of seeing it as just a statement. -

Re: Agnostic and atheist resources for children ?
Sat, February 17, 2007 - 3:03 AMI think it depends on how you use the title, really. In a sense, most of the world uses titles by default, so it's nice to know where you would fit according to the average view. Also, in so much as it can be a bad thing to form a group for a matter, it can get a lot of good done, as well. It's because of the titles that so many groups and organizations have sprung up for Atheists and Agnostics that both discuss the matter and try and make progress in getting our non-belief accepted. I do agree that titles can lead to a lot of bad things such as name calling and discrimination, though.
